Privacy Policy
Effective date: March 29, 2026
Karlic ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website at karlic-app.web.app and related services. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices regarding that information.
1. Information We Collect
Account information. When you sign up using Google or Apple, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from the OAuth provider. We do not receive or store your password.
Video URLs and analysis data. When you submit a video URL for analysis, we store the URL, the generated analysis results, and any follow-up chat messages you send about that analysis.
Trusted Voices. If you curate a list of trusted sources ("Trusted Voices"), we store those preferences in your account.
Usage data. We collect basic usage information such as pages visited, features used, browser type, and device type. This helps us understand how the service is used and where to improve it.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Karlic service
- Generate video analyses based on the URLs you submit
- Save your analysis history and Trusted Voices preferences
- Communicate with you about your account or the service
- Detect and prevent abuse or security issues
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising.
3. Third-Party Services
Karlic relies on the following third-party services to operate. Each receives only the minimum data necessary to perform its function:
- Supabase — handles authentication (Google/Apple OAuth) and stores your account data, analysis results, and chat messages in a secure PostgreSQL database.
- OpenAI (GPT-4o) — processes video transcripts and visual frames to generate analysis content. Video URLs and extracted text are sent to OpenAI's API. OpenAI's data usage policy applies to this processing.
- Perplexity — searches for additional context and source information related to your submitted videos. Search queries derived from video content are sent to Perplexity's API.
- Firebase Hosting (Google) — serves the Karlic website. Standard web server logs may be collected by Google.
We encourage you to review the privacy policies of these services for details on how they handle data.
4. Cookies and Local Storage
Karlic uses session tokens (stored via Supabase's auth library) to keep you signed in. We do not use third-party tracking cookies or advertising pixels. No analytics cookies are placed without your knowledge.
5. Data Retention
We retain your account data and analysis history for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account or request data deletion, we will remove your personal data within 30 days. Some anonymized, aggregated data may be retained for service improvement purposes.
6. Data Security
We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure authentication via OAuth, and Row Level Security (RLS) policies on our database to ensure users can only access their own data. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Export your analysis history
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at eshkenaz.a.joseph@gmail.com.
8. Children's Privacy
Karlic is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you via email or through a notice on the service. Your continued use of Karlic after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
